What We Do
WriteHanzi.online is a free platform for learning Chinese characters (Hanzi). We help learners — from complete beginners to advanced students — understand how each character is written, pronounced, and used, through interactive stroke-order animations, pinyin audio, radicals, stroke counts, compounds, and bilingual example sentences.
Our Data Sources
Our character and vocabulary data is built on well-established, open-source reference projects:
- Unihan Database — standardized Han character data such as radicals and stroke counts.
- CC-CEDICT — a community-maintained Chinese–English dictionary used for definitions and compounds.
- Make Me a Hanzi — open-source stroke-order and writing-animation data.
Updates
We continuously refine character data, example sentences, and site content. Content is reviewed and expanded on a regular basis to keep the platform accurate and useful for learners.
